ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Purpose
The Alternative Learning Hub is committed to minimising our environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices in all aspects of our business. As an education provider supporting neurodivergent and home-educated students, we recognize our responsibility to set a positive example and encourage environmental awareness within our community.

Our Commitments

1. Resource Efficiency
  - Use digital resources and communication wherever possible to reduce paper and printing.
  - Encourage students and staff to access materials online and submit work electronically.
  - Reuse and recycle teaching materials, stationery, and packaging.

2. Energy and Water Conservation
  - Use energy-efficient equipment and switch off devices when not in use.
  - Ensure heating, lighting, and water are used mindfully in any physical locations.

3. Sustainable Procurement
  - Choose eco-friendly, ethical suppliers for office and teaching materials.
  - Prioritize products with minimal packaging and those made from recycled or sustainable sources.

4. Waste Reduction
  - Avoid single-use plastics and encourage the use of reusable items.
  - Recycle paper, cardboard, and other recyclables through local schemes.

5. Travel and Meetings
  - Deliver lessons and meetings online to reduce travel-related emissions.
  - When travel is necessary, encourage public transport, car sharing, or active travel (walking/cycling).

6. Community and Education
  - Raise awareness of environmental issues with students and families through curriculum content and projects.
  - Promote environmental responsibility in all aspects of our educational practice.

7. Continuous Improvement
  - Review this policy annually and seek feedback from students, families, and staff.
  - Stay informed about new ways to reduce our environmental footprint.

Responsibility
All staff, students, and families are encouraged to support this policy. The owner (Chetana Greenwood) is responsible for policy implementation and review.
