About The Alternative Learning Hub

What is The Alternative Learning Hub?
The Alternative Learning Hub is a welcoming online space designed for home-educated, neurodivergent, and anxious students—especially those who haven’t felt fully supported in mainstream education. We specialise in IGCSE tuition and personal growth, offering a calm, flexible, and empowering approach to learning.

Who runs The Alternative Learning Hub?
All our courses and support are led by me, Chetana Greenwood. With over 25 years of experience in adult education, neurodiversity support, and home education, I’m here to offer a personal, knowledgeable, and empathetic learning experience—every step of the way.

Who are your students?
Our learners are usually aged 13–16, home-educated, and may be neurodivergent or experience anxiety around formal study. We welcome students from across the UK and worldwide, and there’s no formal age requirement—gifted younger students are also part of our community, and everyone learns together at their own pace.

Courses & Curriculum

What subjects do you offer?
We currently teach IGCSEs in English Language, English Literature, Business Studies, Environmental Management, and Travel & Tourism. We also believe in the importance of life skills, so you’ll find opportunities for personal finance, AI, book clubs, and a supportive entrepreneur hub.

What is a fast-track IGCSE course?
Our fast-track IGCSE programmes are designed to be completed in just one year. There are no formal entry requirements—just a friendly assessment of reading age and learning style, so we can make sure it’s the right fit for each student.

Can my child join at any time?
We offer flexible enrolment. Some group courses have set start dates, but we do our best to welcome mid-year joiners too. Just get in touch to discuss your child’s situation—we’re happy to help.

Do you provide one-to-one as well as group tuition?
Absolutely. We offer both one-to-one sessions and small group classes, so we can tailor learning to each student’s needs and preferences.

Teaching Approach & Support

How do you support neurodivergent and anxious learners?
Kindness, patience, and flexibility are at the heart of everything we do. We keep class sizes small, adapt our teaching to individual learning styles, and create a calm, supportive environment. We’re also happy to discuss any accommodations or modifications your child might need—just let us know what works best.

What technology do you use for lessons?
We use Google Classroom and Zoom for lessons, resources, and communication. Our platforms are set up to be accessible for everyone, including the use of Open-Dyslexic font and other inclusive features.

How do you track student progress?
We use regular assessments, ongoing feedback, and optional progress check meetings every six weeks. Parents are given access to Google Classroom, so you can easily keep an eye on assignments and progress.

Do you offer extra support for exams?
Yes, we do. We provide guidance on exam preparation, support with access arrangements, and mock exams. We use AI marking tools to give consistent and efficient feedback on mock assessments.

Enrolment, Fees & Payment

How do I enrol my child?
It’s simple—just reach out via our contact form, email, or WhatsApp. We’ll arrange a friendly initial chat and assessment to make sure we’re the right fit, and then guide you through the enrolment process.

What are your fees?
We offer three flexible tiers:

  • Bronze: £150/month – Access to lessons and resources.

  • Silver: £250/month – Includes a weekly one-to-one session, set assignments, and marked homework with feedback.

  • Gold: £350/month – Our Fast Track programme for students taking 4–5 exams in one year. Includes a weekly one-to-one session, set assignments, marked homework, ongoing assessment, and exam prep with externally marked mock papers.

  • Individual courses: £850 per exam (includes live lessons twice a week, marked assignments, and externally marked mock exams)

Do you offer payment plans or refunds?
Monthly plans are available for our three-tier system. Individual IGCSEs are payable upfront, and refunds aren’t available once the course has started.

Are there discounts available?
Yes! We offer discounts for former Broadleaf Home Education students and families enrolling multiple children. Please ask for details.

Exams & Qualifications

Will my child receive a recognised qualification?
Definitely. Our courses prepare students for Cambridge International IGCSEs, which are widely recognised by colleges and employers.

Do you arrange exam entries?
We’re here to guide and support you through the process, including advice on access arrangements. Parents are responsible for registering their child with an approved exam centre.

How do you help with exam accommodations?
We keep copies of student reports to document and track accommodations and modifications. We’re happy to advise on the process and can help you liaise with exam centres.

Accessibility & Community

Is your platform accessible for students with dyslexia or other learning needs?
Absolutely. We use Open-Dyslexic font and adapt resources to support a wide range of learning styles—whether that’s note-taking, adapted lesson slides, or creative homework options. Please let us know about any specific requirements—our approach is always bespoke.

Practicalities & Policies

What if my child misses a lesson?
Non-IGCSE lessons are repeated later in the week, so students can catch up. We also have pre-recorded sessions available in Google Classroom.

How do you protect student data?
We are fully GDPR compliant and use secure systems to store all student data. Information is kept on a protected device and backed up via OneDrive.

What if we have a complaint or concern?
We take all concerns seriously and aim to resolve any issues promptly and respectfully. Please contact us directly with any worries or feedback—we’re here to help.
